Coffee Table Styling Tips

After I posted about our new coffee table a few weeks ago, I had a TON of requests for tips on how to style a coffee table. There are so many right ways to do it but I'll share the tricks I use! There are 4 main things I play with when styling a coffee table (or any table really!) All of these areas fall under the bigger umbrella of color scheme, so make sure you have that nailed down before you begin :)

1. SHAPES
I like to make sure I'm playing with a variety of shapes. If I have a round coffee table I like to arrange the items in rectangle/square or triangle shape. Also, use a variety of shaped objects. With my round table, I didn't want too many round shapes and made sure to break them up.

2. HEIGHTS
I like to focus on varying the height of the objects on the table- usually tall, medium, large. You can play with this multiple times. I usually have something living in a vase as the tallest item but it can be beautiful and unexpected to have another object giving the height.

3. TEXTURE
Adding differing textures to your table creates more visual interest. When I'm shopping for items to style, I try to buy things with fun and contrasting textures. On my table, the coasters are smooth, the vase has a fun raised dot texture, the bowl has an natural rough feel and the tray has a woven texture. I always like to have at least one living thing (plant, branches etc) to bring an organic texture into the mix.

MY FAVORITE ITEMS FOR COFFEE TABLE STYLING

TRAYS- I always love to use a tray because it gives a great space for smaller objects so they aren't floating around. I like uses the opposite size tray as the shape of the table.
